How to replace a sky in Photoshop
Up until recently, replacing a sky in Photoshop was a fairly tedious process. Now an incredibly simple task that can be done in five steps, replacing a sky in an image in Photoshop is a powerful tool to have in your back pocket to turn any photo from great to stunning.
As a professional photographer, this can even be integrated into sessions, allowing for flexibility when the sky isn’t quite the way we imagined it would be.
1. Import your image into Photoshop
Ensure your image is original, high quality, and import it into Photoshop. You can do this by opening Photoshop, clicking “open,” and then finding the file on your computer and clicking “open.”
2. Edit > Sky Replacement
Once your image is open and ready to go, head to the “Edit” tab at the top of your computer, and then move down to find “Sky Replacement.” Click it, and wait for the next window to appear.
3. Choose desired sky
Once the sky replacement window pops up, click the sunset image and a drop down menu of images will appear. From this list, you can go through and pick your desired sky based on what looks best with your image.
4. Adjust and tweak settings
After picking your sky, feel free to play around with brightness and warmth settings offered on the page to best match the vibe of the original image and make the new sky flow best.
5. Export and done!
Once you are satisfied with your final image, click “OK” and, voila! You have a new image. At this point, you can export your image by going to “File” > “Export” and choose your desired export settings and final saving destination.
